Software Downloads

Please download and install the following software:

• Quartus Prime Lite Edition for Windows (earlier versions called Quartus II). Download from here. Select the following for download:
  • Quartus Prime Lite Edition
  • ModelSim-Altera Edition
  • Arria II device support

• Earlier versions oF Quartus Prime Lite Edition were called Quartus II. But since the upgrade to the current release 15.1, the name has been changed from Quartus II to Quartus Prime.

• Specifically, we will be using the following FPGA target:
  • Device family: Arria II GX
  • Device name: EP2AGX45DF29I5

  • Go to Altera's Demonstration Center, where demonstrations on how to use the Quartus II software (which should be similar to Quartus Prime).

• Icarus Verilog simulator for Windows. Download from here.

  • Here is another quick explanation page on how to use Icarus Verilog. Please note that Icarus is just a simulator -- it does not care if your design is synthesizable. You have to run your design through Quartus to know if it is synthesizable.

ModelSim does logic simulation and shows the timing diagram. Icarus Verilog is a simpler simulator that just logic simulation. Both simulators will be useful for your designs.
